The Black Gem Aloe is actually an Alworthia variety, meaning a hybrid of Aloe and Haworthia succulents. The Black Gem feature long deep green leaves that grow in impressive clusters. When exposed to more sun, the leaves will turn a dark red-purple.

Aloe do best in a spot that gets direct morning sun and indirect light in the afternoon, but can withstand full sun and do great on patios. Make sure it's in a well-draining soil, and let the soil dry completely between waterings. These guys can grow upwards of a foot tall.
