The Anthurium is one of our favorite plants to gift and brighten someone's day. The red and white blooms on the Anthurium can last almost year round in bright indirect light. If the blooms die off, the plant lives wonderfully as a low light green plant.
Similar to orchids and staghorn ferns, Anthuriums are epiphytes, which means in nature they are often found growing on trees, using their roots as an anchor. They do best in a loose potting soil that includes some sphagnum moss. Water deeply and then allow the top 2-3" of soil to dry in between waterings.
They are considered very toxic and should be kept away from animals and small children.
