Lobster Claw Plant (Heliconia rostrata)
From the folks who brought you the Shrimp Plant comes another delicious installment, the Lobster Claw (Heliconia rostrata)! A beautiful tropical plant with very distinctive flowers, the Lobster Claw grows long, oval, green leaves and striking red blooms year after year.
Lobster Claws aren't too picky about their indoor setting - they do well in almost every light condition except for dark areas. For the plant to thrive, they like a slightly more humid area than a normal house can provide, so we definitely recommend misting or a small humidifier. They're slightly drought tolerant (you're not gonna kill these guys if you forget to water for a few days), but they do appreciate having moist soil regularly. Because these grow from rhizomes, you can cut the leaves and dead flower stalks back after they're done to encourage new growth. Give them some good fertilizer in the spring and watch those blooms take off!
Considered slightly toxic to pets.
